Phase One: Academics

As a Catholic college preparatory high school, Antonian fosters within students a desire to seek the truth, to develop their talents, and to establish a firm foundation for learning that will best position them for future success. A strong faculty and a rigorous curriculum is the underpinning to this foundation.

Phase One of the “Our Faith, Our Future, Our Time” Capital Campaign saw the expansion of the Antonian academic presence with the renovation of the Retreat Center to the new Pettit Family Center for Academic Excellence. Officially opened for the 2017-2018 school year, the Center is the new home for the student resource center and library, flexible and technology-integrated classroom space, and the Crane Family Learning Center. The second floor provides six much-needed classrooms utilized for Social Studies curriculum.

Pettit Family Center For Academic Excellence

Going above and beyond traditional academic study, the Pettit Family Center for Academic Excellence provides the necessary resources critical in today’s college preparatory environment. The Center is a newly constructed instructional facility engineered to give students the ultimate opportunity to enhance their classroom learning. The center is constructed similar to a college commons area and acts as the academic hub of the school. Students have access to the school library, databases for conducting research, and opportunities to enhance writing skills.
Our goal is for the Center to have extended hours so that students may gather for special projects and broaden their intellectual activities. Among some of the items in support of student learning are:

  • Prime location in front of the school and proximity to the Chapel of the Saints
  • Staffed with dedicated resources to support all students and their academic needs
  • Writing/Research labs for students to delve deeper into areas of study utilizing databases and other research tools used in university study
  • Tutorial lab and special assistance for students with learning differences such as Dyslexia and ADHD, or students in need of extra instruction outside of scheduled classroom activities
  • On campus preparation classes to improve SAT and ACT scores
  • Information seminars covering study skills, time management, choosing a major, deciding on a university, and searching for scholarships

Phase Two: Athletics

ACP athletics play an important role in creating a vibrant campus life and lively local community. Antonian students learn character and leadership by placing victory within the concept of humility and defeat as a means of knowing graciousness. Improvement of critical athletic facilities is expected to not only enhance these values, but also elevate Antonian’s status as a premier institution for athletic development. Relationships formed in athletics go beyond the field, court, or swimming pool. These bonds last a lifetime.

Providing a great variety of athletics and large school activities means increased competition for space. The main gym is often used throughout the entire day and after school. In fact, with multiple teams vying for space to practice at any given time, practices are often scheduled late into the evening or early in the morning—creating additional obstacles to academic study.

The “Our Faith, Our Future, Our Time” Capital Campaign seeks to improve and build new athletic facilities that will elevate Antonian’s athletic program and help the school attract and retain more student athletes and premier coaches.

New Indoor Multi-Sport Athletic Facility

A new indoor, multi-sport athletic facility will provide students additional space for practice times and opportunities to pursue other extracurricular activities. With the indoor turf field, outdoor sports teams and the Antonian spirit groups will have a place to practice during inclement weather. The new facility will have:

  • Basketball/Volleyball/Tennis court
  • A 35’ yard turf field for indoor practice during inclement weather
  • An indoor sprint track providing 105’ of track with 50’ overrun
  • A fully equipped training room
  • New fitness and weight room
  • Separate boys and girls locker/shower rooms and lavatories

Remodel Of Main Gymnasium

The main gymnasium was built in 1964. It has undergone only minor updates and requires changes to meet current and future needs. Remodeling the main gym will include an enhanced lobby to meet the capacity of crowds at Antonian athletic events as well as a new concession stand and restrooms. With this enhanced space, we will provide our athletes and fans a place for which to be proud and experience their athletic success to the fullest.

  • Expanded lobby to meet capacity crowds
  • New and fully equipped concession
  • Remodeled restrooms

Swimming Meeting/Locker Pool House

This will be a multi-purpose facility providing boys and girls locker room areas for changing and showering after practice. Currently, our swimmers utilize the locker rooms in the main building. Since swim competition is a winter sport, new and closer locker rooms will be a welcome addition, especially during inclement weather. As swimming is an excellent sport for building endurance, the pool locker rooms will also be available for alternate team sports during training exercises.

  • Separate locker/shower rooms
  • Close proximity to the pool

Phase Three: Fine Arts

“The evidence is clear: study of the arts contributes to student achievement and success,”
– National Assembly of State Art Agencies in its 2006 report Critical Evidence.

Multiple independent studies have shown that high school students who participate in Fine Arts classes have higher math and verbal SAT scores than those who do not take such classes. In fact, the more arts classes, the higher the scores. The Arts are a vital part of the student experience at Antonian.

The “Our Faith, Our Future, Our Time” Capital Campaign seeks to build a new Fine Arts Center dedicated to the Fine Arts where students may maximize their creative and musical talents. At present, Art has one classroom to conduct five instructional periods a day, with students at various levels of learning. There is limited space for students to work on long term projects and/or exhibit their creative talents. The Fine Arts Center will allow students to work on long-term artistic projects and showcase their finished work with pride.

Fine Arts Center

The Fine Arts Center, a new two-story building, will be home to drama, visual arts, choir, and the Mighty Apache Band. The Fine Arts Center will replace the current practice gym that will be demolished once the Indoor Multi-Sport Facility is completed.

Located on the first floor will be:

  • Art Classrooms equipped with a sink area
  • A theatre for individual and small group practice and performances
  • Gallery space for visual arts, choir and theatre
  • A long-awaited Band Hall dedicated to the Mighty Apache Band
  • Storage areas for props and musical instruments

The second floor will accommodate eight new full-size class rooms for future buildout.

ENDOWMENT

The creation of a permanent fund to ensure Antonian’s ability to provide scholarships and financial assistance to parents who wish their children to attend is a priority. The Antonian endowment will create a revenue stream to provide scholarships and needs-based tuition assistance to families facing financial hardship.

The Antonian endowment is designed to function in perpetuity, making it possible to provide financial support over the long-term. The principal in this account will remain intact and the earnings provide for the special purposes of the fund. After the endowment reaches $1 million dollars, a percentage of investment gains will be used to address priority needs such as scholarships for students who otherwise would not be able to attend Antonian without financial assistance. This is a hallmark of Catholic education, and one that often affects several generations.

One of the distinguishing characteristics of an endowment-fund is that the principal amount contained in the account is not disbursed for any reason. This principal amount is invested in a manner that creates a steady investment return. From this investment return, a percentage, typically 5%, is disbursed to Antonian to allocate according to the purpose set forth in the Endowment. Disbursements may vary over time, given the rate of investment return on the principal.
